The Pimax 8K X and Pimax 8K Plus Finally Available

The Chinese manufacturer Pimax announces a new VR headset: the Pimax 8K X, offering a native definition of 4K per screen. This new device will be delivered to Kickstarter contributors just before Christmas...
The Pimax 8K, priced at $900, is equipped with two 3840×2160 CLPL panels that make it the first 8K VR headset on the market. However, the technical limitations of its design limit the display to 2460×1440 per screen and software upscaling is required to achieve maximum definition.
Today, Pimax announces the launch of the Pimax 8K X. This new model offers a native rendering of 3840×2160 per screen with a refresh rate of 75Hz. The 8K definition is therefore reached.
On the other hand, it will be necessary to use upscaling to achieve a refresh rate of 90Hz. The integrated upscaler also benefits from a completely new algorithm. The headset also benefits from a new panel technology, offering superior contrast and deeper colors through the use of LCD and RGB.
The 170 degree field of view remains the same as in previous models, and panels are about 10 to 15% better used. A new rigid and modular audio tape has been added, and the facial interface is wider than before for increased comfort.
The Pimax 8K X, initially expected in May 2018, will be delivered to Kickstarter contributors from February 2019. It will then be marketed for $1300, but it is not known when it will be possible to order it. It will probably be necessary to wait until the year 2020.

In addition, a second headset called Pimax 8K Plus will be launched on October 30, 2019 for $1,000. It will offer the same features as the 8K X, but its definition without upscaling will be limited to 2.560×1.440 as the first Pimax 8K. It will be possible to choose between 65, 72 or 90 Hz refresh rate.
It is possible to choose a reinforced resistance option for both devices, but the price of this option is only available on request. It should be noted that neither of these two headsets is provided with controllers or Steam VR stations, which must be purchased separately.

Pimax also specifies the date on which the various modules promised for its VR headsets will be launched. The hand-tracking module will be delivered in December 2019 to contributors, as will the eye-tracking module and the modular audio-strap. The comfort kit, 10 meter cable and Steam VR 2.0 stations will be available by the end of November 2019.
